The Toll

I sit alone in my room
I stare silently at the screen

With each refresh more and more
are added
to the ever growing toll

With each refresh,
I give up more and more
And while I watch the toll grow
in front of my eyes

Misguided politicians refuse to believe
that this pandemic
is real.

Yet more and more
are added to the toll.
