Umlaut is currently closed for submissions for our 2026 issue. For our 2027 issue, submissions will re-open in the fall. We’re dedicated to getting high school students published—If you’re interested in writing, photography, music, film, or any other form of art, we’d love to hear from you!
ABOUT
Umläut is an arts journal for emerging writers, photographers, filmmakers, visual artists, and musicians, run out of the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Creative Writing department, in San Francisco. It was founded around 2004 and recognized for excellence as a literary magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English in 2013.
It is our mission to gather the works from developing artists, and bring them to a wider audience.
